Benefits Of Vitamin D

As we age, our ability to fight infection and other health problems will decline significantly. The immune system, responsible to fight infecton, among the adults is no more functioning effectively as found among the youngsters.

Among the serious effects from such defficiency are the higher rate of cancer, pneumonia and flu.

Vitamin D3 helps the bones to absorb calcium. Other than that, vitamin D now is found to be useful for the whole body, from strengthening the immune system, to the control of cell development.

More than 2,000 genes ( about 6% from human genome ) are controlled by vitamin D. The fact that every tissue in the body, including the brain, heart, breasts, muscles and immune system are having receptor for vitamin D means that it is required at the optimum level for this tissue to function better.

A shocking fact is that it is approximated nearly 50%  from the world population are having risk of vitamin D3 defficiency. It is a natural nutrient that is generated in our body from the sunlight exposure. It is generated as a pro hormone in the skin after exposure to sunlight, and then is changed to hormone form that is strong only when the body needs it.

The fact is, when we grow older, we lost the ability to replace sunglight to vitamin D in our body. Nevertheless, the defficiency can be overcome with supplementary food in the form of vitamin D3.

In these recent years, there were several  researches being carried out on the benefits of vitamin D3 in various circumtances, like cancer, heart disease, diabetes and Parkinson disease.

It was found that the low level vitamin D in the blood is associated with the increase in cancer risk. Those who have lower level of vitamin D will have higher risk of cancer than those with higher level of vitamin D.

One of the first cancer identified as having relevance with vitamin D is breast cancer. Now there is evidence that vitamin D reduces the risk of breast cancer, as it has been established to prevent tumor growth in breast cancer.

Many health specialists have recommended 1,000 I.U. to 2,000 I.U. of vitamin D daily for the purpose of reducing the risk of diseases such as, cancer, osteoporosis, inflammation, stroke, chronic heart attack and flu.
